I’m really really excited about the upcoming Doctor Who premier. That is all.

Then again, I suppose it could be worse… I could be Tony Buser
I mean, THAT guy was in NY tonight and missed the Doctor Who premier.
At least I have 3000 miles and three time zones as an excuse.
Tony, I mean, that guy… He was right there…
Heart = Broken
I am crushed. On the verge of tears.
The cast of Doctor Who was in New York for the premier. They had a Q&A. And, this tweet from Bre:
#doctorwho premiere is full of bow ties, scarves and awesome
And, here I sit, in lousy California. Stupid left coast.
This Doctor Who fanboy is broken hearted.
Your mamma was so rusty
I recently watched this bit from Doctor Who. Cybermen and Daleks insulting one another? Heck yes!
- Our species are similar, though your design is inelegant.
- Daleks have no concept of eh-leh-gance.
- This is obvious. But, consider – our technologies are compatible. Cybermen plus Daleks. Together we could upgrade the universe.
- Request denied.
- Hostile elements will be deleted.
- Exterminate.
- Open visual link. Daleks be warned. You have declared war upon the Cybermen.
- This is not war. This is pest control.
- We have five million Cybermen. How many are you?
- Four.
- You would destroy the Cybermen with four Daleks?
- We would destroy the Cybermen with one Dalek. You are superior in only one respect.
- What is that?
- You are better at dying.
Yet another cynical thought
As I’m re-watching the Doctor Who 2010 Christmas special1 I suddenly caught myself thinking… Wait a second, he just broke his sonic screwdriver. Again.
The last sonic screwdriver was good for two doctors and four seasons. This last screwdriver lasted only a single season. 2 There was a reference to his screwdriver trying to regenerate itself, but who knows.
The cynic in my wonders if it was all a ploy to sell yet another sonic screwdriver.
Happy camper
Today was a long Long LONG day. What was supposed to be an 8 hour round trip drive evolved, by means of persistent fog, traffic, accidents and road work, into a 10 hour round trip drive. Oh, and I was at my destination meeting for less than two hours.
Upon my return I discovered two long overdue checks from clients at my PO Box, a PILE of e-mails in my inbox, and my Doctor Who Series 5 DVD set at my house. It’s a pretty cool set with a lot of extras. I’ve got the U.S. release which includes a shimmery motion cover, a Pandorica themed DVD holder, some pretty cool art all around, and three art cards. None of this would have made me purchase the set, but they really are quite nifty.
When our old DVR was going bad and we replaced it, I lost several episodes of the fifth season I was hording like a miser. See, some of those episodes were aired in their entirety – which meant the episodes were 1 hour and 20 minutes long. But, after the premier of the episode they were aired in only edited formats such that they fit into an hour with commercials. However, this meant that there are probably many episodes with several minutes that I’ve never seen. I’m by no means a completist or collector, but it would be nice to see these bits as originally intended. Or, at the very least, as those in the UK got to see. :)
Imagine, if you will, the first episode without the fish custard???
Pulled the trigger
I just bought it.
Chicken, part II
From a chat with Marty: “if only someone would write a blog post about when it’s going to be on sale”
If only, my friend. If only.
The price of Doctor Who Series 5 just dropped another $2.
Oh, and Marty is officially off my doo-doo list since he’s watched The End of Time. As soon as he catches up with The Eleventh Hour, we’ll be on speaking terms again.
Playing chicken
Marty, STOP READING NOW.
is selling over at Amazon – but as I procrastinate purchasing it, the price has been falling. From about $60 to $52 – with the non-Amazon options as low as $42 or so with shipping.
So, do I pull the trigger now or wait for it to drop a little more? I don’t often buy DVD’s what with a Netflix subscription and all. But, any time I have watched a movie (or show) more than a few times, it’s probably worth having a copy. I’m not a completist or collector – I don’t own any other seasons, but this last one has been so freaking good.
Doing God’s work
Restoring old lost episodes of Doctor Who?
It takes several hundred hours to restore a single episode, frame by frame. I imagine a room full of monks hunched over individual frames and restoring them with quill and ink.
