I like the idea of making a crayon mold with my MakerBot. I even have a draft design sitting on my hard drive. However, what’s a good shape for a crayon mold? Triangular crayons, square crayons, fat crayons, thin crayons, flat crayons, smiley face crayons, Christmas crayons, Halloween crayons, Valentine’s Day crayons, Easter egg crayons…
If you could have any1 shape crayon, what shape would you choose?

I still want a crayon extruder… Stuff crayon bits into the top, new crayons in whatever stl-shape you want come out the bottom.
That said, I think cookie-shaped ones would be good. Kids are going to eat the darn things anyway so you might as well make them look like food. Or maybe shaped like a drumstick..
Or, and this is bordering on the brilliant, make them shaped like broccoli so kids DON’T eat them.
I, for one, welcome our new broccoli crayon overlords.
@Dave: OMG! Dude! Veggie shaped crayons is a brilliant idea!!!
Red = beets, bell peppers, tomatoes
Orange = carrots
Yellow = onions, corn
Green = broccoli
Blue = ?
Brown = potatoes
White = cauliflower
Black = ?
Try plaster of Paris molds.
I bought a silicone tray to make ice torpedoes for my bike water bottle. It serves double duty as a crayon mold.
I am very impressed with Crayangles which are triangular based. As a parent of a 3 year old, it makes total sense to have a crayon that doesn’t roll off the table (Whether they be triangular, quad/square, pentangular or hexangular…just anything but round). You can’t image the hundreds of times we’ve had to bend under the table to grab a dropped crayon that accidently rolled off the table.
@Milo: I’ve actually tried making crayon molds with limited success. I found the toughest part was getting the crayon out. I’m sure there’s a trick to this, but I haven’t done enough experimenting yet. That said – I completely agree with you. The triangular crayons are SO fantastic for their non-rolling properties.
