Electrical design help?

I recently bought the Perhaps with a joule thief?)1  Since I know very VERY little about electronics, I’d appreciate some diagrams, descriptions of parts, etc.

My end goal is to install this device into a MakerBot made replica of the 11th Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver.

If you’re interested in this project or just want to help, I’ll gladly accept any assistance.  Let me know if I can help with any printing projects in return.

Thanks!

  1. Why do I get the feeling I’ve seen the guy on the right before??? []

  1. Here, Try this switch:

Wire up the common terminal of the switch to positive side of some power supply, like a battery*. Then, to each of the other terminals, connect a properly valued current limiting resistor for the LED you want that terminal to power. Connect each LED anode to the respective resistor and then all of the LED cathodes should be tied together with the negative side of the power supply.

You mention a single AAA battery, I doubt it will have enough voltage to light a UV LED. The ones I have (http://www.mouser.com/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?R=VAOL-5GUV0T4virtualkey59300000virtualkey593-VAOL5GUV0T4) get very dim below 3 volts. You will need either 3 AAA/AA batteries or some kind of boost converter like a MintyBoost (even that needs 2 AAAs).
