I actually felt sorry for that bastard

Edit: Jeff – Just in case you read this – I do not really think you are a bastard.  I follow your blog and am very appreciative of your in depth posts and analysis on all things MakerBot/RepRap.  The title is more about me feeling like a sucker than a commentary about you.

Jeff posted about totally abandoning his dreams of building a RepRap Mendel.  He said what pushed him over the edge was the constant question, “So, what are you going to build with it?”  Of course, the guy had to post this on 4/1.

I actually felt sad at the thought of him turning his parts into a “melted sculpture of failure.”

I suppose it’s not his fault.  I traded my MakerBot for some magic beans yesterday.

  1. It’s Jeff actually, not Keith.. (Jeff Keegan)

Glad to have made your April Fool’s day eventful! :D Absolutely no offense taken, except maybe at the idea that I would have even taken offense! WHAT’S UP WITH THAT? That’s insanely rude. I’m now offended. ;D

I’m completely intolerable to most people these days because 55% of my social dialog for the past 5-6 months has been all about RepRap, and the other 45% has been Lost.. (well ok save a few percents for talking about my family & kids. ;D Anyway, the stark contrast between that RepRap evangelism and deciding to destroy the plastic pieces I spent several months building seemed pretty damned funny to me. :)

Thanks for following the blog. Hopefully I’ll have some progress to report after this weekend.

  2. D’oh! Sorry Jeff! I fixed the post.
I hereby retract my suggestion that you may have taken offense at being called a bastard.
I know how you feel about RepRap taking over social dialog. I’ve been boring anyone who will listen since 4/08 when I first heard about the RR project. It’s only gotten SO much worse since getting my MakerBot.
Actually, in hindsight, I think it was hilarious. :) I could just picture someone getting fed up with “Uh, so what are you going to make?” question and giving up in frustration – welding their plastic parts into a monument to their own shame…
